What Zap or Not is
Zap or Not is an educational assessment about laser hair removal candidacy. It was built from 15 years of clinical laser experience to help you understand, before you spend real money, whether laser hair removal is likely to work for you and what to ask before you book.
What Zap or Not is not
Zap or Not is not medical advice. It is not a diagnosis. It is not a treatment plan. It is not a substitute for an in-person consultation with a licensed provider who can examine your skin and hair in person and review your full medical history.
No part of this site, the assessment, the guides, or any add-on service creates a doctor and patient relationship or a provider and patient relationship of any kind.
Your verdict is based on your answers
Your ZAP or NOT verdict and your decoded results are generated from the answers you gave in the quiz. They are only as accurate as those answers. Hair color, skin tone, and growth patterns can be hard to judge on yourself, which is why some results suggest a test spot or a photo review before you commit to a package.
A ZAP verdict means laser hair removal looks promising based on what you reported. It does not guarantee that laser will work for you, how many sessions you will need, or what your results will be. A NOT verdict means laser does not look like a good match based on what you reported. It is an opinion, not a medical finding, and a licensed provider who sees you in person may see it differently.
Medications: your doctor and pharmacist decide
Questions about medications are included because many medications, including ones that have nothing to do with hair or skin, can affect whether laser treatment is safe for you. Zap or Not does not clear any medication for laser treatment, and nothing on this site overrides medical guidance.
Always check with your doctor and your pharmacist before starting laser hair removal while taking any medication, whether it is a prescription, an over the counter product, a topical cream or serum, or a patch. If your results ask you to bring a medication name to your clinic, do that. The treating clinic and your pharmacist make the final call, not this website.
Photo Review
The Photo Review is a specialist's opinion on candidacy based on the photos you submit. It is not a medical evaluation. Photos cannot show everything an in-person exam can, and lighting and camera quality affect what can be seen. Treat the review as experienced guidance, not a diagnosis or a guarantee of treatment results.
The Mom Test
The Mom Test reports what a clinic says about its equipment and process when we call and ask. Clinics can describe their services in ways that differ from what happens in the treatment room. The report does not guarantee a clinic's safety, treatment quality, or your results. Your booking decision is yours, and any issue with a treatment is between you and the clinic that treated you. See the Terms of Sale for the full terms of this service.
When to talk to a medical professional
Stop and speak with a doctor or dermatologist before any laser treatment if you have a skin condition, a history of abnormal scarring, a suspicious mole or lesion in the area you want treated, are pregnant, or have any health concern a quiz cannot assess. If you ever have a reaction after a laser treatment, contact the treating clinic and a medical professional promptly.
The bottom line
We built Zap or Not to tell you the truth, including when the truth is that you need an in-person professional before you decide. Use this assessment to walk into any consultation informed, and let licensed providers who can see you in person make the medical calls.
